A Minnesota Tradition

You’ve been anticipating and dreaming about this day for months... a low cloud ceiling, light rain and perfect timing. You’re tucked away in the cattails with your trusty companion patiently waiting and your call tightly squeezed. A red-wing blackbird makes a familiar call, while a blue heron stares at the water looking for his next meal. The serenity of dawn breaks when a flock of mallards buzz by! It’s a family tradition. A Minnesota Tradition. We all have a passion for the great outdoors and the benefits of what our waterways provide. For all of us, it’s the understanding and actions taken to keep our lakes and rivers free from what doesn’t belong there.

We all want our lakes and rivers to maintain their unique, natural characteristics. Invasive species change your favorite water’s ecosystem, how you use the lake and can make cleaning and maintaining equipment a challenge. We’re all on the same team and benefit from each other’s positive actions.

What can you do to help keep Minnesota’s waterfowl traditions in tact? Two important things:

  1. Take Action. When trailering your boat, take the time to go through the CLEAN, DRAIN and DRY steps. Also, clean, drain and dry your gear, including your decoys. If you see others not taking action, offer to lend a hand by showing them these steps.
  2. Share the word! Like and share on social media, including our accounts and posts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. The more like-minded water enthusiasts we have the better – all looking out for our best interests.

Explore the videos and links below and please take the time to follow the CLEAN. DRAIN. DRY. your boat and gear. Our Minnesota Traditions depend on it!
